Carry On Luggage

Image
Flight back very uneventful. We order a wheelchair on  Toronto arrival and they whisk us right through. We  had about 11/2 hr. wait for flight to NB. just time to  grab a($12.00)sandwich and some bottled water. We  split the sandwich as it was huge.  Jean's Civic started first crack the little electronic  chargers do a good job over the winter.NB roads are in  a mess. full of pot holes, generally NB roads are in  poor shape compared to Florida. Filled the Civic with  gas yesterdayat $1.25 a liter. They are threatening a  jump to over a $1.50 a liter. We have only one carry on luggage each, but noticed a plea from AirC for people to bulkhead store their  carry ons. I would think for free. Not enough space in  the overheads.  Noticed one negro lady struggling with 3/4 carry bags.  Why did they let her carry on all that stuff. People  don't like paying extra. It was quite a sight seeing her  struggling down the planes narrow corridor banging

Re-learning and Re-install

Image
Well this was a week of re-learning. Jean's desktop would not accept Her password. That's a no-no when dealing with Win8. No way to get into Win8 and do a restore. Option #1 and the only option is to do a new install. That done. Now I find out that the wirless adapter is fritzed will not connect her computer to the internet. Off to Staples for a new adapter.  Adapter installed it wanted our password to connect to the Net. We could not find it as it's been year's since we used it. What to do. Well it turns out you have to re-install a new password that means a router  reset which wipes out all info and back to factory  reset. It's been years as I previously mentioned to  do a new install so we had to trust the Dlink guy to  help us out. He was quite good even though he was from a foreign country. Let's leave it at that. Anyhow Her computer is on the Net as well as the Samsung Tablet and now we can see the non commercial ROKU

IE - Bing - Delete

Image
I had problems with IE/Gmail where it was hacked. IE has no Malware Protection compared to  Google Chrome which uses MacAfee to catch phishing.   When you go into the settings of chrome, and under the "On Startup" area. Do you have it set to "Open a specific page or set of pages" ? If so, You will see "Set Pages" option and just make sure that Bing is not listed to be a page that opens up during the start up of Google Chrome.  ********************************* I COULDN'T UNINSTALL BING AS WELL.... SO I TOOK ANOTHER OPTION, I WENT INTO MSCONFIG AND WENT TO START UP PROGRAMS AND DISABLED BING.  IT DOESN'T SHOW UP ANY MORE. Worked for me April-2014

SO YOU WANT A SMALL CAR TO SAVE GAS????

Image
Small cars, big mystery. San Francisco police are looking for the people who turned over four Smart cars. The tiny, eco-friendly cars were found balanced on their headlights, rear bumpers or on their sides, with shattered windows and some body damage. All four were found between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the Bernal Heights and Portola neighborhoods. "It's hard to determine a motive without any suspects identified or in custody," police spokesman   told the Associated Press. The bizarre acts are being taken seriously and the culprits could face felony vandalism charges. The police have an eyewitness and are looking for multiple people wearing black hooded sweatshirts who were around the area during the time of the incidents.

Robots Don't Pay Taxes

Image
The robot revolution is just beginning. Automation is set to displace millions of factory workers. Even if Ontario’s manufacturing sector produces more in coming years, its share of overall employment will fall and its share of wages will fall further. Robots are just one of the “disruptive innovations” that are forcing policy- makers to reassess how they think about economic growth. There is a growing recognition that governments need to come up with new policies to ensure the gains from innovation are more fairly distributed between private owners of capital and society as a whole. Otherwise, unpleasant political consequences could follow.

HEARTBLEED IS FOR REAL

Image
What to do First, check which sites you use are affected. If you don't want to read through the long list of websites with the security flaw , the password security firm LastPass has set up a Heartbleed Checker , which lets you enter the URL of any website to check its vulnerability to the bug and if the site has issued a patch Next, change your passwords for major accounts — email, banking and social media logins — on sites that were affected by Heartbleed but patched the problem. That patch should also include reissuing any digital certificates that might be vulnerable. However, if the site or service hasn't patched the flaw yet, there's no point to changing your password . Instead, ask the company when it expects to push out a fix to deal with Heartbleed.

Winter Finally losing Some Grip

There is always the potential for flooding in the Duke St.,Chippewa St. area.It would be nice to see it's in control this year. While 10 to 20 mm of rain is expected to fall over the North Bay area by Saturday morning, with the chance of freezing rain, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says flooding is not anticipated. The authority issued a Watershed Conditions Statement-Water Safety with the spring melt underway. “We’re all glad to see the spring melt finally underway but it’s important with the melting of the ice and snow that the public be careful around area waterways,” According to the MNR, the snow pack across the northern reaches of North Bay District remain above normal for this time of year.

Sun Vacations More Expensive

Image
Loonie’s plunge makes sun vacations more expensive. Ex Finance Minister Flaherty would like Canadian Dollar at $.80 against the US greenback. That really hits the pockets of retirees heading South for the Winter Months. Contraire -- Canadian Manufactures are rubbing their hands with glee.Easy street again. As the Canadian dollar continues its fall, some tour operators are imposing $35 currency surcharge per passenger on destinations down south. As the loonie trades below 90 cents (U.S.), that vacation sun package will soon get a little pricier as some tour operators are adding a currency surcharge to recover costs. Calling it a “significant depreciation” in the Canadian dollar, Air Transat said it will be adding a $35 currency surcharge per passenger on all packages and flight bookings for Florida and sun destinations, effective Jan. 27. Prices on vacations down south are so competitive, with many costs including hotel rooms calculated in U.S. dollars, that the company

Rob Ford voted against honouring Nelson Mandela

Image
On the same day Rob Ford voted against honouring Nelson Mandela, another famous world leader chimed in on the mayor, with former U.S. president Bill Clinton having a few laughs at Ford’s expense on a late night comedy show. “I will say this: He has absolutely destroyed every stereotype people have about Canadians,” Clinton said on the Jimmy Kimmel Live program Wednesday. “The Canadians are upbeat, optimistic, can-do, they are embracing, they’re inclusive… “Everything I ever believed about Canadians, ol’ Rob has proved that you can’t be stereotyped positive or negative, I guess,” the 42nd president of the United States, no stranger to political scandal himself, said.
