Quebec, Ontario could save $12 billion

Image
Quebec, Ontario could save $12 billion each co-ordinating  nuclear, hydro resources. It doesn't make sense to sell gasoline for twice as much in  some provinces as others, and it doesn't make sense to do  it for electricity. Electricity costs less than 5 cents a kilowatt hour in Quebec  and more than 10 cents a kilowatt hour in Ontario, many  regions of the country now have something to gain from  greater energy co-operation: - Alberta and Saskatchewan want to pipe oil to the east    coast through Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick (and    expand pipelines through B.C); - Ontario would benefit from low-cost Quebec hydro power - Quebec is embarking on a cap-and-trade carbon market       venture, but has no Canadian partners. Quebec is currently considering three additional projects to  expand its links to the Northeastern U.S., where it already  exports large amounts of power. Ontario should scrap plans to refurbish the Darlington  nucle

Cyber Criminals And Blackhole Malware

Image
Blackhole is the most well-known malware kit available on  the internet; the kit is leased out to criminals who use the  many browser exploits available within the kit to infect  users. Cyber criminals use malicious links to lead users to  compromised sites and the exploit kit then will determine  which exploits will work on the victim’s PC and use them to  compromise the machine. It sells for about $40.00. How do you keep yourself safe? - Update your anti malware, virus protection - Never open a email unless you know the sender - If your computer has a camera (laptop - close lid) - Buy a outlet strip with a (on-off sw.) and use it. This    malware has the ability to turn your machine on and   utilize the camera, access your files, etc.

Countries And Taxation

Corporate income tax, capital tax, sales tax, property tax and miscellaneous local business tax burdens of those countries. Here’s how the ten countries in the study measured up, from least tax burdened to most: India Canada China Mexico Russia United Kingdom Netherlands United States Germany Australia The Indian city of Chennai lowest taxes and the Russian city of Saint Petersburg rounded out the list: Chennai, IN Vancouver, CA Chengdu, CN Mumbai, IN Toronto, CA Montreal, CA Monterrey, MX Mexico City, MX Manchester, UK Saint Petersburg, RU Tax Burden In Canada With Income Splitting Compare two hypothetical couples with an $80,000 income. One pair consists of dual earners collecting $40,000 each. The other is a sole job-holder, making $80,000, living with a stay-at-home spouse. That one earner surrenders $14,520 in federal tax while each member of the two-income couple is subject to a lower rate, resulting in a total federal tax bite of $12,000. W

Canada's Concern Not Ukraine But Our Far North

Image
Where Canada's Interest Should Lie Russia's illegal occupation of Ukraine and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to the international community, PM Harper said. "The international community will continue to apply pressure until Russia de-escalates. Putin's aggression will not go unanswered. Russia has a decades-long lead in controlling its Arctic coast. If Canada doesn't catch up in claiming territory, the country may not have the power to decide who navigates the Northwest Passage through a sweeping archipelago of more than 19,000 Canadian islands. Losing control over access to the waterway could cost Canada any chance of profiting from escort fees and other tolls if climate change permanently opens the meandering route through often tight channels. By far, the most developed Arctic passage is Russia’s Northern Sea Route, which cuts almost a third off the journey between East Asia and Europe through the Suez Canal, a trans

Pictures of Lake Nipissing which is about 40 miles long and 17 miles wide.If you look  closely you can still see ice beyond the open water. Trees have not even started to bud. Very cold North winds are keeping Spring from being sprung. These pics taken about 20 miles from North Bay at a lookout  called Jocko Point,Indian Reservation Land.

Very Late Spring In North Bay

Image
A very cold, lots of snow Winter to a cold windy Spring in NB. We are at least  a month behind the norm. This is what you have to expect living in Northern Ontario. These poor little plants are crocus that normally bloom here in early April, they have just barley crawled out of the ground in the last couple of days. Oh! should I mention the pot holes? Pick a street any street .

Silver bullet that can balance the Ontario budget?

Image
OR Aside from taxing and cutting, the only one other way to balance the books is grow the economy. Two decades ago, then PC leader Mike Harris used growth to beat back a huge deficit. His idea was simple: Reduce the size and cost of government while slashing taxes to encourage economic growth. The economists and editorial writers of the day had a glorious time roasting Harris over the insanity of cutting taxes to balance the budget. But darned if it didn't work. So is growth the silver bullet that can balance the Ontario budget? Yes and no. Back in the day, Harris was able to unleash the power of private sector investment and job growth by the simple if courageous act of cutting taxes. In those dark days, Ontario's tax rates were noncompetitive. A competitive tax structure invited investment and job growth. Today, Ontario's growing tax burden has yet to reach the point that similar cuts would have the same effect. Which leaves those who would
