 For those who do not know what living in Canada is like in the Winter - Here are pictures of our Street.

On New Years Eve, an old Irish tradition at midnight is to open the back door then the front door to let the Old Year Out and the New Year in. I think this year deserves the doors, windows, and garage doors to be open. Bye bye 2020.  Hope we never see a repeat.

  Well at least it's a diversion from all this covid  talk. We received about 4 in. of snow over the  weekend. The kid that does our driveway waits for  the snow plow to do it's thing so he does not have t o do it twice. We do not shovel anymore, too dangerous for us old folks. This is our first Winter in 33 yrs. It's no wonder we went to Florida for 32 of them.Cheers.J&P

  Often we forget about the other countries and their problems. Here is one example.  Everyone complains about high prices how would you like living in the Netherands were gas is over $11.00 a gallon, no wonder they all ride bicycles.

 

Received this from someone via email, it sure hit home how Canadians feel. And then along came Donald Trump. Despite formal treaties and agreements, including NAFTA, Trump slapped tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum on the excuse that we were a “security risk”. Give me a break. He insulted our country, personally insulted our Prime Minister, and told lies about us. Canada is taking it on the chin from China because we are detaining one of their citizens pending extradition to the US over an American complaint, and Trump is doing nada to help us out. Like many Canadians, over the years I have made many great friends in the U S, and can’t understand the rabid support some of them have for Trump. I live very close to the border and used to visit the US at least a dozen times a year to shop and otherwise spend money (restaurants, hotels, etc.), but thanks to Trump I visited only a couple of times last year. I was only 8 yrs. old when Canada Joined Great Britain in 1939 in the WW2 fight. USA joined in 2 yrs. later. Quebec was reticent in joining up but eventually did. The infamous Van Doos (Quebec Regiment) were hated by the Germans as they rarely took any prisoners. What do I recall. Well my Mum was a nurse and worked shift work, so I had to do the shopping. She would leave me a note and money for this. We both had ration cards and meat tokens, which were small blue disks with a hole in the centre.Just about everything was rationed. We were lucky my Great Uncle operated a butcher shop and I'm sure we received a little extra. There was no TV but we had radio and I was allowed to stay up for the 10 PM BBC news broadcast. They reported how the Allies were doing on the different fronts and sometimes how the  Canadians were doing, killed in action and wounded. The Londoner's were the hardest hit. With all this time on our hands, finally decided to update our Blog. Since no one watches it. I'm not in a hurry to do so. With this corona virus around we have been in isolation since returning from Florida. What a temperature shock it was 86 F. when we left Orlando. Been spending a lot of time trying to install Alexa. We received 2 of them free from Amazon USA. Found out we had to change everything to our Canadian address and enter our WIFI Canadian password inscribed on the router.
